  • looking for a portable gps system for canoe trips?

Posted by admin on October 25th, 2009 and filed under adventure trips | 3 Comments »

my husband leads canoe trips and goes on crazy kayaking and canoing adventures and was talking about this portable gps system that also gave real time weather reports etc from anywhere, even when he’s in the middle of nowhere with no phone etc. i am not sure where to find this or where to even begin looking for it! does anyone know what he may have been thinking of or where i could find one for xmas?

Sounds like a Rhino GPS, you can try searching that on google or yahoo. Also, www.backpacker.com and www.backcountry.com has great reviews. If you were to buy one online I`d get it from Backcountry.com since they have a no questions asked return policy, so if that waterproof gps takes a little too much abuse and ends up in the drink without being sealed you can return it no questions asked for a new one or for a refund.

Agent planned journeys vs planning your own adventure. What is your choice? What are your experiences?

Posted by admin on October 6th, 2009 and filed under adventure trips | 1 Comment »

Am looking to travel to africa and europe. As I’ve looked into it, I’ve found many of those trips that have been planned out by an agency. The itinerary is fully planned as to where you are each day and you can pick the type to suit (like active etc). How good are these trips? Do you prefer this to planning your own trip or vice versa? I want some input as to which I should choose.
So.. agent planned or self planned?

"Without a travel agent…you’re on your own!" At least that’s our industry’s motto.

For Europe, you can really do it either way. Not so dangerous, and much easier to "wing it."

For Africa: You really need a good travel agent. Like me! :) A good agent can plan you a custom trip, with the itinerary being as structured or free-flowing as you prefer. You need someone who is specialized – most of your corner travel agencies know little to nothing about Africa.

Can I help you plan your trip? You can find my employer on the web at www.african-safari.com. Or contact me directly: phil@african-safari.com.

Is 62 too old to seek this kind of adventure?

Posted by admin on September 29th, 2009 and filed under adventure trips | 28 Comments »

I fixed up a bicycle with a motor.Plan to take long trips and camp out most nights.Health is bad and will have to build up to it.Might die out there but I’ll die of boredom at home.

I would rather die in a tent than in front of a tv. But start with a couple short trips first….

Does Islands of Adventure in Orlando Have Lockers?

Posted by admin on September 25th, 2009 and filed under adventure trips | 3 Comments »

My son is going on a field trip and wanted to know if there are lockers at Islands of Adventure. Could you tell me where they are located when you enter the park and how much? Thanks for your help.

They have lockers that cost $1 on the left as you enter the park. They also have short term lockers located by most of the big rollercoasters. I know he will have a great time!

What should I bring on an overnight trip to Carlingford Adventure Centre?

Posted by admin on September 23rd, 2009 and filed under adventure trips | 5 Comments »

I’m going with my year at school for two days activities. I’ve never been anywhere like this before so I’ve no idea what to bring!
Ye, ty! Im gonna b so wrecked dis week wit de results nd den dis 2!

I went there in TY! Twas a good week. =] Don’t get lost in the woods though! *ahem*

You do three activities every day if I remember correctly, one in the morning, one after lunch and a less strenuous one in the evening. You’ll need a swimsuit if you’re doing kayaking, as many pairs of socks as you can pack, whatever towels you need for showering (I don’t think they give you any), two pairs of jeans or tracksuit bottoms for every day you’re there (you get muddy), decent shoes that have ankle support (not essential, but there’s some uphill hiking involved to get to some of the activities. It’s much easier than doing it in converse) and PJs. Some schools dress up on the last night, so ask around to see if you should bring something nice.

    Have a good time! =]

Is Hammamet a good base for day trips?

Posted by admin on September 17th, 2009 and filed under adventure trips | 1 Comment »

Looking to stay in Hammamet, likely at an Iberostar (for the AI, the pool, the beach, the relaxation!) but we also wants to explore several historical sites (Carthage, Dougga, Tunis, poss El Jem). Not so much interested in the safari/desert Jeep adventure type trip.

We’re not going with a package holiday so I don’t have a tour company to check with in regard to excursions. Will I be able to find day trips offered at the hotel, with other tour group desks, as in Mexico? Or is it easy to find local operators in town to set up trips like I metioned above? Or am I better off staying in another area?

    Any help appreciated.
    Izzy

Hammamet is a pretty central location if you are looking to take excursions like the ones mentioned. In each hotel there will be tour operators set up offering different excursions. Prices will depend on where you want to go, what you want to do, and who you go with.

Carthage is located in Tunis and they will most likely be combined as one trip. There are many interesting and historical sites to see in Tunis, so try to pick an operator that will give you plenty of time to explore.

El Jem is about 2.5-3 hours south of Hammamet. It is a small city, with the main attractions being the coliseum and the everyday outdoor suk.

Dougga is even farther south, and will be a lot hotter. Make sure that you pack plenty of insect repellent and bring plenty of water with you.

There are also a bunch of other sites that are noteworthy here in Tunisia with visitor, such as the Star Wars sets, Matmata, and Djerba. You will have plenty of options to choose from. Because it is a tour company taking you out, you will have more than one stop at a time.

If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.
