  • What are good action-adventure books for a teen to read over the summer?

Posted by admin on July 7th, 2010 and filed under adventure | 9 Comments »

I like movies like National Treasure and shows like Unnatural History. What are some action, adventure, and mystery books that I can read for fun over the summer?

Try reading "She’s Come Undone" by Wally Lamb. That book is just one of those books where once you start reading it–ya can’t put it down!! It’s a very interesting story…And in fact–it’s my all-time favorite book–out of everything I’ve ever read. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!

So B. It is good. I am reading Nim’s Island right now. So B. It is about a girl with a disabled mom who can’t talk and she is in touch with no family. So she goes on a Journey by herself to find andwers about her past and to learn what "soof" means. (It is a word her mom does know but no one else doesn’t)

Nokosee: Rise of the New Seminole by Micco Mann. A fun read about a 17 year old punk rock chick lost in the Everglades and her adventures when she meets up with a 17 year old Seminole boy groomed by his Loony Toons dad to be the first of the New Seminole who will lead an eco war on the "Outside." What transpires is a clash of cultures, deaths, violence, and one of the truest and funniest first time sex scenes I’ve read in some time. Not fantasy but romantic realism at its best.

The King Must Die by Mary Renault. Set in ancient Greece it follows Theseus on a journey of discovery while painting a vivid picture of the times. Loved the descriptions of young uninhibited Greeks running buck naked up hills and through forests and making love among the flowers. The scenes of naked teens jumping bulls with back flips cries out for a cinematic interpretation. Ms. Renault’s written a series of historical novels set in this period and all of them are so worthy.

Falling Angel by William Hjortsberg. Re the book, Stephen King says, "Terrific…One of a kind…I’ve never read anything remotely like it." Otto Penzler in the New York Sun considers it to be "the single most original private eye novel ever written." I can’t vouch for that because I’m not a private eye buff but it is one of the most suspenseful and original books ever written for sure.
