Try www.tourismthailand.org for the info too. Too much to answer you. Been there and eco-tourism is what is selling there. There is unique mountain landscape and hill tribes to visit there.
3 issues facing MHS? Firstly is is not well-known. Secondly it is far from most of the popular places in Thailand. Thirdly there is no reasy route there except by flight.
So take a trip there if you are keen.

It will answer the geography and tourist facilities questions. I don’t know if you are able to read Thai. I have the thai site : http://www.maehonson.go.th Unfortunately, this site is in Thai.
If you can’t read Thai, travelmaehongson.org is your best bet for checking out links of the Thai Travel Info and some governmental links which might lead to the official mae hong son province’s site, hopefully in English.
