  • Do I need to get a tour to visit south east Asia?

Posted by admin on October 21st, 2009 and filed under adventure tour | 6 Comments »

…. I would like to go on a trip adventure and visit Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Borneo and Indonesia.

Do you recommend to get into a tour to visit these places or would I have more fun on my own?

    Thanks:)

First of all, Borneo or Kalimantan is an island of Indonesia. So it’s not a country on its own. FYI :)

Tour or on your own, it depends. I like to take a tour package, because then I will have a crowd to travel with, but with fix schedules and destinations you cannot change. While traveling alone, you have to get more trustworthy information about the local situation and it won’t be easy to get help on the way if you need it.

Have a nice trip! Thank you for visiting Indonesia.

SE Asia is amazing….I’m heading back for the 4th time in January. great people, good food and the cost of living / touring cant be beat :) I’ve Traveled via tour vans, buses, planes and trains all around Thailand into Laos, Burma, Malaysia and Cambodia. When you take small local tours its easier to meet other travelers who can share their local knowledge or experience . You can also get a better deals on tours as a larger group. I do think its easier to get visas if you fly into Vietnam and Malaysia due to the security and insurgent trouble near the boarders. Many SEA airlines offer multi city/country passes. I Think Cathy Pacific offers service to most of your destinations. Good luck and safe travles.

It really depends on what you are looking for.

A tour is a easy way to see many tourist attractions. It offers accommodations such as hotel, tickets, food and transportation. Everything is taken care for you, so all you have to do is sit back and relax. Also, if you join a tour, it tends to be cheaper. The bad thing is that the tour schedules and plans are fixed.

Going out without a tour lets you be more adventurous and you get to do and see whatever you want. However, that means you will have more responsibility such as staying safe, finding your own accommodations, and lots of planning.

Also, there are many types of tours. There are more extensive tours that take you to all the different countries and there are shorter tours such as a one day city tour.

I recommend you do your research before going. Compile a list of things you wanna do in these places and see whether a tour is a good idea.

      Also, remember to be safe

Visiting these countries on your own will definitely be more fun and adventurous than going with a tour. A tour will take you to touristy places and not to any other places. As a tourist beside enjoying yourself sightseeing and shopping, it is to experience the real lives of the locals. One cannot get to experience this by merely going to tourist attractions in those countries but if you travelling on your own, as you said, be adventurous, go to the outskirts of the cities and even villagers. You’ll be suprise that what’s in store in these small places can outdo those offered by famous touristy places. The only drawback of travelling on your own is inconvenience. With a tour, everything is planned for you but if you were to travel on your own, a lot of planning ought to be done. Inter countries travel within those countries you mentioned above is easy and cheap these days. Air Asia offers cheap flights throughout South East Asia ( except Myanmar ) ( http://www.airasia.com ) but the same cannot be said on internal travel. You have to plan properly your itinerary and then move on to transportation planning. Bear in mind, these are after all SEA countries, certain remote places are not that easy to get there.

If time and money do not matter much to you, i suggest you travel on your own rather than on a tour.

You can travel more freely on your own than joining a tour.

Hong Kong is a must-visit destination in Asia, confirmed by a recent CNN poll. It’s the only tax free city in Asia too. Check http://www.DiscoverHongKong.com From Hong Kong you can join Cathay Pacific’s airfare+hotel pakaged tours easily and cheaply. Check http://www.CXHolidays.com
