  • What is your ultimate New Zealand adventure activity and why?

Posted by admin on August 31st, 2009 and filed under adventure activities | 39 Comments »

Firstly I would have to say go to Queenstown; such an amazing place!!! Every adventure activity you could ever think of (and more) you can organise in Queenstown.

I would highly recommend doing the ‘Canyon Swing’. It’s a cross between a bungee jump and one of those swings at the local park….. except that there is a massive 60m free-fall drop.

It was such an awesome rush that I had to go and do it twice :-)

Heliskiing for sure is the ultimate NZ adventure activity. It is really scary at first but when you get over the initial shock, adrenalin pulls you through and you can’t wait to get back up there and do it again.

Heliskiing is definitely not for the faint hearted!

Hitchhiking. I hitchhiked across New Zealand from the North Island to the South and did everything from the glow worm caves to bungie jumping, jetboating, skydiving, but the true adventure was in the journey.

The bungee jumping on the Auckland Harbour. It was my first time. I’d definitely would like to do it again. The visit in Milford Sound is also very nice. And one that I’ll never forget is the visit in Cathedral Caves. So majestic.

just getting there is my dream adventure, never been overseas. N.Z is the only overseas place I want to go to. 3 out of of 4 of my kids have been there, but not me.
I’d love to see those hot bubbly springs you have and v8’s race at Hamilton, with Greg Murphy have the win.
I just want to get there.

No place on earth has developed so many ways to pay for you to kill yourself than NZ. Maybe its the dramatic scenery, the beautiful lakes, the clean air, the awe inspiring mountains or simply the fine wine they produce but my goodness, you would die happy in NZ!! Queenstown is the natural and obvious place for the adrenalin rush. Bungy jumping a bit tame for you? Well do the triple Bungy, the best most terrifying ways for your ankles and eyeballs to disengage in a single day. If you fell more like life on the ocean (river) wave is your thing then a jet boat along the canyon is the ultimate adrenalin rush. Months of training from the skippers of these jet propelled speed boats is supposed to induce the consumer into some level of confidence. Let me tell you, that heading full throttle into the sheer limestone gorge had me repeating this fact over in my head at the speed of light, only to open my eyes to find that in milliseconds we had swerved a few degrees and saved our heads from decapitation!! Fun yes, heart intact…just about!!

However the ultimate adventures of NZ do not simply reside in these easy to get thrill transactions. For me the ultimate was to wake up in the morning, step outside and look at the snow capped mountains, to stand still and hear nothing but the hum of insects and the birds swooping over translucent crystal blue lakes. New Zealand IS the adventure, not the destination. Hire a car, take a few weeks and some time to breathe in and out . Then you will begin to understand what it feels like to believe you are the only person on the planet….

I believe Zorbing would be the best because i don’t know anywhere else in the world where you can jump inside a plastic ball full off water and roll down the side of a hill. It sounds like it would be a real thrill and so exciting

White water rafting down the Rangitata River on the South Island. Stepping out of my comfort zone, kitting up in the cold, and the adrenalin rush of surfing the rapids was a pure thrill. Didn’t even feel the cold until the end. It was amazing. I learnt a lot about rafting safety, and made new friends.

but i would have to say bungee jumping was such a rush… WOW!
Give it a go, even if your nervous, cos the experience far out ways the fear of not doing it! ;)

Having lived in New Zealand and fallen in love with the place I think my ultimate adventure would have to be skiing Mt Ruapehu then white water rafting followed by a long soak in a natural hot pool in Rotorua , Ive done 2 out of these 3 but yet to do white water rafting.
Also loved our trek thru Arthurs pass.

What an exciting place to holiday. It looks like it’s so different to Australia, yet sooo close.
We all should do a pilgrimage there as rite of passage.

The exchange rate is great too. More bang for our Aussie dollar than just about anywhere.

Sad thing is that if it cost 5c to travel the world, we couldn’t get out of sight at the moment.

      Haahaha

      Danny.
