  • Stuck in the house all weekend with a preschooler and a toddler; what activities do you suggest?

Posted by admin on September 12th, 2009 and filed under adventure activities | 8 Comments »

This babysitting adventure will be a lot more fun for all three of us if I have some activities (other than TV!) for them.

    Thanks for suggestions.

    finger painting
    making play-dough
    bake cookies
    go for a walk
    go to the park
    make pizza
    read
    dance
    listen to music
    puppet show
    build blocks
    play house
    play cars

Make sure you have some outdoor activities planned (weather permitting). You could play catch with a light weight ball, play tag outside, look for bugs (young children like to do this). You could also plan a little scavenger hunt for them (like hide a few items outside and give them clues to try to find it). Also, plan a picnic outside for lunch.

For inside activities, make sure you have plenty of art supplies for them to color, paint, or glue things. Sometimes kids like to help cook/bake, so maybe have them help you bake some cookies and decorate them.

      Have fun!

Have a costume party! You can all dress up silly. You could even parade around the neighborhood if you’re brave.

      Playdough. Coloring. Sidewalk chalk.

Try finger painting, sing-a-long videos, face painting, coloring, and just getting in the floor with them with a lot of toys and let the fun began. You will be amazed how kids that age can amuse you and themselves with the least of things.

Go to a dollar or craft store and see if you can get a bunch of beads, foam/shape cut out pieces or a box of different kids of noodles. Kids love to glue and bead and can be occupied for hours. Make sure the house youre babysitting at has glue, plenty of construction paper and paper plates and just let the kids have a good time. They can glue beads in the shapes of letters or make a fun design .Arts and crafts is definitely the way to go.
If the weather is nice, see if they have any side walk chalk. maybe bake some cookies. that’s also fun for kids.
Parents love to come home and see that their kids were occupied by something you brought and had fun.
