Planning my honeymoon for December 08, and would love to go to an island in the Caribbean. But I’m afraid we’ll get bored of just sitting on the beach. Are there any places there that have other non-beach related activities?
OMG Puerto Rico is the best place for adventure & beach. This is why the PR tourism’s slogan is "Explore Beyond the Shore" & it used to be "Visit the Continent of Puerto Rico" There is so much to do here, it just depends on what you like.
San Juan is the big city & the main tourist area. Its a very historical city & there are alot of historic sights to see like El Morro, a 6 story war fort that was built over 500 years ago. There are old cathedrals & gov’t houses. The homes are colorful & built with old spanish colonial architecture & there are cobblestone streets with lots of restaraunts & boutiques. Its very pretty. There is also everything modern that you could want. There is really great nightlife like clubs, bars & casinos & it’s pretty safe compared to some other islands. Isla Verde is a nice beach in San Juan, something like Miami beach with hotels & resorts & golden sand. There are taxis & buses all around San Juan too. Now you can stay in San Juan or outside of San Juan. Because there are alot of nice place outside the city too, like Fajardo, Vieques & Culebra, Ponce, Rincon, Dorado & more.. You can stay at these other places or you can rent a car & travel the whole isalnd, its only 100 miles long.
There is a Rain Forest on the east coast in Rio Grande called El Yunque. Its a mountain you can drive right up & then hike the trails & swim in the waterfalls. There are nice beaches nearby too like Luqillo & Seven Seas. Also This is right near Fajardo. Fajardo has great boating & fishing & snorkeling, scuba diving & water sports. You can catch a ferry from here to the small Islands of Vieques & Culebra which have almost secluded white sand beaches, very beautiful. In Fajardo & in Vieques there is also a bioluminescent bay where the water glows in the dark. You take a kayak at night, its amazing! In the north, there is Arecibo Telescope, the biggest radio telescope in the world. & Camuy Caves, a huge beautiful underground cave system. On the west coast surfing is great. Rincon is known for surfing & beautiful sunsets, even whale watching in the winter. In the South Ponce is like a small European town with museums & nice architecture. There is also Guanica dry forest here. If you like the quiet mountians go to Utuao in the central area. Driving PR is beautiful in itself. The food is delicious & the people are friendly. You can horseback ride on beaches & do watersports & all kinds of nature trips. Have fun!!
I am a single female in her 30s who is hoping to travel abroad this August. I am travelling alone and would like to join in a group tour. I would like to travel to Thailand, but am open to suggestions. I thought about travelling with REI Adventures, but some of their trips are very costly. I found some websites on group travel, but don’t know too much about the companies’ reputation.
I believe on lonelyplanet.com there is a message board where you can make plans with other single travellers, and correspond some sort of meet-up.
hiking AT, Pacific Crest Trail, Canoeing Mississippi River, Saiing to Hawaii, etc…what are some other cool ideas
take a NOLS trip! (National Outdoor Leadership School) They have trips all over the world with backpacking, kayaking, climbing, skiing, dog sledding, and sailing!
Okay I have an idea for a choose your own adventure game, but here’s the thing. I’ve looked all over the internet to figure out how, and the only thing I keep hearing is use flash or use java or something along those lines. Plain simple, I can’t use either. I have absolutely no idea how to use java, and I had the flash trial on my computer run out already. Any alternatives?
You need to create it by using characters from what you made.
im interested in travel and adventures im just curious of soem great places to go and see and thign to do whiel you are there
Outward Bound (http://www.outwardbound.org/) on the Colorado River. Two weeks. It was absolutely a wonderful experience, and I’ve never done anything like it since. Unforgettable.
We’ve scheduled a Hawaiian cruise on the Spirit of America, and may want to schedule our own land excursions. I am told they will pick you up at the dock and return you to the ship.
Are you familiar with Hawaiian tourism, esp. cruising? If you are, what suggestions would you have? What’s the best way to save money on excursions or other things to do while in port? Is there perhaps an agency over there that can book adventures & excursions for us?
What excursions have you done and enjoyed the most? We’re a retired couple, so hiking the Na Pali coast is probably out, but we’re open to any suggestions.
Also, if you have sailed on the Spirit of America, we’d appreciate any advice about the ship, ports of call, or cruising in general. This is "free-style" cruising, and anything you could tell us about that would also be appreciated.
Thanks a lot for your help!
There is a lady in Sarasota, Florida that is exceptionally knowledgeable on the subject of Hawaiian Cruises who can answer almost any question for you about the Spirit of America and scheduling your own land excursions. Her name is "Candy" her Toll Free number to call is: 866-807-7386 M-F 9-6 EST on Ext.# 2037. She has full access to the Gulliver’s World Travel Data Bank Service. She can be very helpful to You!
My friends and I want to go on a road trip for about 6 weeks between Vancouver and California this summer. We want to see all the coolest, weirdest and wackiest things that Washington, Oregon and California have to offer. Small towns, beautiful landscapes, obsqure museums, etc…We also really want to meet lots of people along the way. Any advice about cheap places to stay (motels, camp sites, whatever) and eat would also be fantastic.
We love all things retro so ideas on things like old disco diners, drive in movies, or anything else would be great. This is our dream trip, our last adventure before our lives take us different ways, please suggested things that will make this trip as memorable(for better or for worse) as possible. Thanks
You should consider diving along the coast highway in California. Look at a map and check out highways 101 & 1. Besides Mt. Shasta, Shasta Lake and the Shasta Caverns, there isn’t much to see along I-5. I-5 was built to move traffic up & down the state rapidly, not for its senic beauty or roadside attractions. It’s boring, especially through the Central Valley, unless you like seeing miles upon miles of totally flat lettuce and vegetable farms, stretching all the way to the horizon for hours on end. Most of the time, the only places to stop are run-of-the-mill fast food joints, AM/PM minimarkets, and truckstops.
The coast has: Artcata, a funky little town with a statue of President Mckinley in the town square, and Samoa Cookhouse, with its all you can eat, lumberjack cafeteria style breakfast. Humbold Redwoods State Park, where you can drive down the "Avenue of the Giants," which parallels the highway, and you can see 300 ft tall redwoods. San Francisco, where the coast highway crosses the Golden Gate Bridge, and passes through the city. Monterey. Cannery Row is a bit touristy now, but still nice to drive through. Big Sur. Hearst Castle in San Simeon is cool to check out. San Luis Obisbo and Santa Barbara are nice, larger coastal cities to visit. Then it’s on into the morass of the LA freeways, where you can link back up with I-5 and continue to San Diego.
The coast highway is slower than I-5, but the scenery and views of the ocean are spectacular, and you will have more chances to talk to locals along the way. I-5 is so booooring, unless hearing "can I take your order please" through a drive-thru speaker at McDonalds is all the conversation you want to have with locals. Trust me on this one.
How do I get myself into a field where traveling and adventure come in a pair? I like history. I like being overtly critical, and I am obsessed with various different types of cultures. Please don’t suggest flight attendant though. Traveling that much on planes would really upset me, but otherwise, I’m very open to suggestions that involve some, if not all, of these attributes. Please also tell me how to get into the field.
Hello and G’day to Ya CrowmofMia,
So ya like Adventure Do Ya! And you want to be a player? I have many good friends down in Florida that have helped me out a lot in my many travels and if I might suggest to ya to check out www.gulliversusa.com/1143591 I believe is the correct pass code for ya to use. Good Luck With Your Decision!!!
I went on two RCL cruises before (Adventure and Freedom) both as a teenager, so I obviously participated in the Adventure Teen program. Both were amazing experiences, especially the new Freedom teen programs.
Now, I turn 18 on June 3rd, and the cruise is on June 15th. I’m almost positive they will not let me on the teen program. Anyway:
What is there to do for an 18 year-old on a cruise like this?
First, if you really enjoyed and want to still be part of the teen program, it should be easy to persuade the cruise director to allow you to participate as a teen. Eighteen qualifies you as a teen.
Just ask the cruise director to allow you to participate in the adventure teens program if you want to do that. You don’t stop being a teenager until age twenty.
