  • What are some great books for young adults about adventure?

Posted by admin on September 29th, 2009 and filed under adventure | No Comments »

I am a girl in the 8th grade and I love reading. Does anyone know any good books that are about adventure, such as the Harry Potter series, Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. So are there any books like that? And also, I do not like short books. So if there are any good books with over like maybe 200 pages, please tell me. Thanks in advance =D
Oh, and I don’t care if it is in a series or anything. Thanks =]

When I was in eighth grade last year, I read all those books and I am still an avid reader. I am currently reading Lord of the Rings. Here is a list of my recommended books (not in any particular order):

    The Host-Stephenie Meyer
This book takes place somewhere in a make-believe future where some type of "alien" invades Earth and take over the minds of humans, but in a way to make them less violent and not like the stereotypical way of an "alien invasion"

    The Inheritance Cycle-Christopher Paolini
You probably have heard of this series, starting with Eragon. Well, there is a boy who comes across a dragon egg and has to go on an adventure to save his fictional world. There are supposed to be four books and the fourth should be coming out this year or the next.

    The Uglies Series-Scott Westerfeld
I am not sure what this series is called, but the main character Tally lives in an image obsessed world, and before she can become "pretty", she has to betray her friend who decided not to become "pretty" and to stay "ugly". This is only the first book summary, though. I don’t want to spoil it in case you haven’t read it.

    Narnia-C.S. Lewis
This is a great series about siblings who travel to another world. It is mainly the two youngest, Lucy and Edmund that appear in almost all the books. The second book, The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe was turned into a movie. The books probably aren’t 200 pages, but it is a series. Again, I do not want to spill every bean.

    ?-Bruce Coville
I am not sure what the series is called, but the books are about unicorns. Yes, unicorns. The main character is a girl named Cara who mysteriously gets warped to another world with many fantasy and fictional characters such as (the obvious) unicorns, dragons, and a weird cross of a monkey and a squirrel. The first book is small, but they get progressively bigger and the two after are really good and have a lot of adventure. I do not think that the series is complete yet. But here are the books in the series: Into the Land of the Unicorns (I know), Song of the Wanderer, and Dark Whispers.

The Hero and the Crown-Robin McKinley
I really really like this book. There are some books that come after it with different characters, I believe. It talks about a girl called Aerin who lives in another fictional world. On the cover, it shows her fighting a dragon. Obviously, she goes to fight a dragon while facing rumors that her mother was an evil witch at the beginning.

    Pendragon-D.J. MacHale
Here is another book which involves warping to another world. The main character is Bobby who’s job is to help places that are about to reach a "turning point" make the right decision. The book is written from his perspective, and it is written in forms of letters to his buddies. So there are some places where they talk about how his friends are doing on Earth.
Wow. This is a long list. Here is a quick list without a summary:
    Ella Enchanted
The Hobbit (beware: lots of singing)
    Artemis Fowl
    Nancy Drew

Just to check out an amazing city, check out www.travelportland.com

I fixed up a bicycle with a motor.Plan to take long trips and camp out most nights.Health is bad and will have to build up to it.Might die out there but I’ll die of boredom at home.

I would rather die in a tent than in front of a tv. But start with a couple short trips first….

Dude! The compensation with YTB’s much better than Adventure. Make sure you shop around before signing up! There’s also Art of Travel, World Ventures, and numerous others. Just do your homework.

I am traveling to New Zealand and enjoy adventure travel (bungy, sky dving, etc.) where should I go and do?

Posted by admin on September 29th, 2009 and filed under adventure travel | 9 Comments »

I’m traveling the first week of March in 07.

There’s bungy jumping almost everywhere in New Zealand. Where there’s a bridge, high mountain ridge, there will likely be a bungy-jumping company there. There’s one in Auckland, at the Sky Tower or jumping over the Harbour Bridge. There’s also one in Taupo, if you want to stay in the North Island. But if you want to go for the extreme, try Queenstown or Wanaka. There will be many bungy-jumping companies there too, as well as ski resorts in both locations.
In the South Island, there are snowy mountains and glaciers, especially in the Southern Alps, where you can do some skiing. In the North Island, there is Mount Ruapehu, next to Rotorua, and I think that’s it.

Apparently though, "The New Zealand ski season is roughly early July to early October", so if you’re really lucky, there may still be some snow left. Although, judging by the weather now, I think the snow will stay for a while yet, since it’s still hailing in the middle of summer… O_o
I’ve found sites with excellent information for adventurous people like you ;) Hope they’re of use.
Have fun when you come to New Zealand!

what are some activities teens can do during the summer?

Would you prefer the outdoor adventure sports or a computer gaming parlour?
